The Native Plant & Seed Library Returns This Fall!

We’re excited to announce that the Native Plant & Seed Library is coming back for another year—opening Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 from 12–3pm each day! This year we’re moving to a new location at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver (4505 E 18th St, Vancouver, WA 98661) in Central Vancouver.

The Native Plant & Seed Library is a free, community-driven resource where you can take home native seeds or plants to grow in your own yard, garden, or community space. The goal is to help more people plant native species that support our local bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife.

How It Works

  • Take some seeds or plants – Whether you’re starting a new pollinator patch or adding to an existing one, you’re welcome to take home native seeds or plants at no cost.

  • Give some back – If you’ve benefitted from the library in past years, consider collecting and donating seeds or dividing plants from your garden to share with others.

Rules for Participation

To keep our library focused on true native plants, please make sure:

  1. Seeds and plants must be on the Portland Plant List of regional natives.

  2. Seeds should be clean and labeled with both the common and botanical name, plus collection date and location if possible.

  3. Plants should be healthy and pest-free and labeled with their name.

  4. No invasive or non-native species, even if they are “pollinator-friendly.”

Why Native Plants?

Native plants are adapted to our local climate and soils, require less water and maintenance than many non-natives, and provide the food and habitat that local pollinators and wildlife depend on. By planting natives, you’re helping restore a healthy, resilient ecosystem—right in your own yard.

Mark your calendar for September 27 & 28—come browse, learn, and grow with us. Together, we can keep native plants thriving in our community and make our neighborhoods more welcoming to pollinators and wildlife.
