Ways You Can Support Making Vancouver a Bee City USA

We don’t often ask for your help, but now is the time to show your support for the Vancouver Bee Project and our partners on the Pollinator Subcommittee as we work to make Vancouver a Bee City USA!

Join us at the Vancouver City Council meeting on Monday, October 28th to stand up for pollinators. You can send a written message to the council or sign up to speak, either remotely or in person. Below we have provided suggested talking points and email text to make it easy for you to show your support. Let’s make a difference together! We only ask that you’re respectful during your testimony and that you stay on-topic and stick with pollinator talking points like:

  1. Pollinator Protection: Becoming a Bee City USA helps safeguard bees and other pollinators, which are essential for food production, biodiversity, and healthy ecosystems.

  2. Community Engagement: This designation would foster educational opportunities and community involvement through habitat restoration, public awareness, and sustainability efforts focused on pollinators.

  3. Environmental Leadership: Vancouver has the chance to lead by example in environmental stewardship, showing its commitment to protecting wildlife and promoting green spaces that benefit both pollinators and people.

  4. Economic Benefits: Supporting pollinator habitats also supports local agriculture and gardening, which rely on healthy pollinator populations to thrive.

  5. Healthier Urban Ecosystems: Enhancing green spaces with pollinator-friendly plants contributes to a more resilient urban environment, benefiting residents through cleaner air, water, and increased biodiversity.

  6. Alignment with Sustainability Goals: Vancouver’s Bee City USA designation would align with broader city goals of sustainability, climate action, and conservation efforts.

Subject: Support for Vancouver to Become a Bee City USA

Dear Vancouver City Council,

I am writing to express my strong support for Vancouver becoming a designated Bee City USA. As a resident of this beautiful city, I am concerned about the declining populations of pollinators, which play an essential role in maintaining biodiversity, supporting local agriculture, and sustaining healthy ecosystems.

By becoming a Bee City USA, Vancouver can demonstrate its commitment to protecting pollinators by creating more habitats, promoting native plants, reducing pesticide use, and raising awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators to our community. With the combined efforts of city leadership, local organizations, and residents, we can ensure that Vancouver remains a healthy, thriving environment for both people and pollinators.

I encourage you to support this initiative and take steps to make Vancouver a Bee City USA, not only for the benefit of pollinators but for the future well-being of our entire community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
